Redemption Story of the Week: Duan

This week’s Knoxville Redemption Story is Duan.
Duan entered the Men of Valor program on November 12, 2025, coming in on enhanced probation—but for the first time in a long time, he’s hopeful.
He began Men of Valor while in the Knox County Jail, completing the 12-week program there. Now, he says this next season of his life has one focus:
“I need to focus on God.”
Clean and sober, Duan says he sees himself differently than he did before.
“It’s better when you can talk to God about your problem, instead of trying to deal with it using drugs.”
Over the next year, his goals are simple but powerful:
• Build a deeper relationship with God
• Continue bettering himself
• Stay on the path he’s started
And Duan wants people to remember something many in reentry often feel but rarely say out loud:
“We’re people too.”
